New Items in Angie’s Etsy Shop and Disney Hair Accessory Photoshoot

I’ve been really getting a lot of my artwork and things in my Etsy store sold so I wanted to get the ball rolling on getting some more product up in my shop since the Holidays are coming up and all. In between working on a few commissioned pieces outside of Etsy, I’ve also been producing some more things to sell in my Etsy shop. Josh took pictures of those things for me because we just got a new camera and he’s been experimenting with it and getting used to it. So, today we did a little photoshoot and I kind of wanted to show it off to everyone, and if you are interested in any of the things you see, we actually have those things and some other handmade items in my Etsy shop right here! My shop’s name is Flipadeeflop, so you can also find it by searching that name on Etsy! (You can click on the images to be brought to the Etsy page if you would like to purchase anything! They make great gifts, especially for someone who has an upcoming trip!)

Top 10: Gift Giving Guide for Someone Who Has An Upcoming Disney Vacation

Not only are the Holidays soon approaching, but even if you aren’t jumping on the bandwagon of getting into the Christmas/Holiday spirit as early as the day after Halloween (like Disney is), it’s inevitable that you are at least THINKING about what gifts to get the people you love. Even if you don’t celebrate the Holiday season with gifts, you will, at SOME point buy someone a gift throughout the year, and this list is for that, it isn’t just Holiday specific. Whether there’s an upcoming birthday or you’re just celebrating an upcoming trip, here are my Top 10 gifts aimed specifically for someone who is traveling to Disney in the near future!

gift guide

 #10

Luggage accessories – $5 & up – Whether travelling by air or car (or on foot?), the person you are buying for is most likely bringing luggage with them. This is why I like this idea, everyone could use stuff for their luggage! This includes luggage tags, locks, straps to hold everything closed (some come with a lock), a scale, individual organizer bags, and more! Even though if you book through Disney they send you luggage tags, they don’t last forever and will probably eventually rip, so buying something that will last a lifetime is a great idea! If your gift-receiver doesn’t have a nice piece of luggage, buying them that is a great gift idea as well! You can find stuff like this everywhere, but if you are looking for Disney-theme specific merchandise, look on http://www.Etsy.com, , and The Disney Store.first-aid-kit

#9

Travel First aid kit – $10 & up – These are really great especially since buying some of the items you might need on vacation can get pricey if you are buying them at a Disney Gift Shop. Stuff like bandages, aloe, antibiotic cream, and tweezers are handy to have in minor injury situations. (note: if they are flying, this cannot be in carry-on luggage if the kit has anything that could be considered a weapon, like scissors). You can find these kits at stores like Walmart, Targets, sporting goods stores, and online at stores like Amazon.com.

Disposable Ponchos $1-$5 – You can buy ponchos inside the Disney parks, but they run around $10 each, which is pricey when it’s an unexpected expense and you have to buy for multiple people. I like getting the $1 ponchos you can find at stores like the Dollar Tree, Walmart, and sports stores and I will buy a couple each so that we can actually throw them away once we use them instead of carrying around wet ponchos after the rain stops.

Mini Fan/ Spray Fan – $1-$5 – This is another thing people get trapped into paying way too much for inside the Disney parks because people often down realize how hot it will be until they get there. Disney sells spray water bottle fans, but they are expensive, so getting them ahead of time is more affordable. Dollar Tree and stores like Walmart and Target usually carry mini fans (don’t forget to buy batteries too!) or you can upgrade to the ones that also have a water bottle attached so you can mist yourself, too!

A Subscription to Touring Plans – $7.95 (Disneyland) or $12.95 (Walt Disney World) – I love Touring Plans for one main reason – the crowd calendar. Sure, other sites have crowd calendars for certain times of year, but Touring Plans has day-to-day crowd ratings. I like planning my trips using these day-to-day calendars, because going to the parks with the smallest crowds can often get you on more attractions on any given day instead of going to a park that is open later/earlier for Extra Magic Hours.  They also have other features, like up to date wait times on attractions, forums, and you can ask questions on the smart phone app and get quick answers from other app users while in the parks! Check it out at www.TouringPlans.com

Trading Collectibles – $5 & up – Trading Disney Pins and Vinylmation figurines is something that has been going strong for a little while now. Basically you bring your collection around the parks and can trade with participating Disney Stores around the parks, Disney Cast Members, and other guests on vacation. The nice thing about these is if you aren’t a pin or vinyl trader/collector, these can still be fun to have, especially if you can get ones that are of your favorite characters, attractions, and movies! You may want to find out if the person you are buying for actually does this sort of collecting and trading before you buy these, though, to decide how much or how little to get them of these items. You can find Vinylmations and Pins on http://www.DisneyStore.com.

A Countdown Calendar $10 & up – These are best found on Etsy. The  one in the picture above is one I actually made for me and Josh. The portion with the number is a chalkboard, so each day we change the number! It gets us excited about our trip and helps us keep our plans up to date. Of course ours is specifically Wedding themed, but you can find more generic “Disney Vacation Countdown” ones, which can be used over and over, each time they go on a Disney Vacation in the future. There are all kinds of designs and mediums out there to choose from!

space bags - before and after

#3

Vacuum Space Saver Bags $15 & up – These are great for packing as space-saving efficiently as possible! You just pack your clothing in these bags, then suck out all the air with your vacuum. You can find these online (search for “space saver bags”), or stores that usually carry As Seen On TV items.

burts_bee_foot_care_kit

#2

Foot Care Kit – $10 & up – You wont believe how sore your feet can get with all that walking around you do on vacation. A foot soothing care kit can be a life saver for this. I usually bring a minty-lotion for this purpose, but buying a kit with a pumice stone and foot soak would make a great gift!

490000022301#1

Disney Gift Cards – $Any Amount – Disney gift cards are the perfect gift for someone who is going on a Disney vacation. Not only can they use them to help pay for their vacation package (you can use up to 5 forms of payment!), but they will pay for anything inside of the Disney parks. This means not only souvenirs, but food too!

Disney Fan Art: DIY Crafty Countdown Calendar

A couple weeks ago, we secured our wedding date for WDW in April 2015. I got super excited, for obvious reasons, and decided to make a countdown calendar. I didn’t want to buy new materials, so I just gathered some things from around the house to throw together.

What I used:

  • Flat, pre-gessoed canvas
  • Acrylic Craft Paint
  • 2 different sized round cups (to trace the circles)
  • paint brushes
  • a small chalk board & chalk (you can also use chalk board paint, or refer to my old post about making a countdown calendar and see how I made the numbers out of paper!)
  • tape
  • hot glue
  • fuzzy wire (you can use string, or regular wire, or anything else to hang the calendar)

wpid-20141113_124509-1.jpg

How to Make it!

First thing’s first, I painted my canvas with a background color and contrasting design.

I then mixed a matte medium with the same color paint i used for my background to thin it out (if you don’t have this, just thin it out with water if you want the same effect) and I painted over the whole design until I was happy with the coverage

I painted the border, I just free hand came up with a design – you can Google “borders” if you want to get inspiration.

Once that was all dry I traced my Mickey & Minnie circles with my cups, then traced them in, then painted them black. Once that was dry, I free hand painted the top hat and tiara.

Next was the wording. I free hand painted “days until” at the top right of the canvas, then “Happily ever after” on the bottom in white paint.

Once everything was dry, I took a fuzzy wire and hot glued it to the top 2 corners of the back of the canvas.

I took my chalkboard and taped the chain it was attached to to the back of the canvas so that it hung right above the Mickey&Minnie and to the left of the “days until” writing.

I hung it on a nail on the wall by our door in the dining room so we can change the number each day it gets closer!

Disney Wedding Planning Journal #8: Nov 11, 2014 (Losing Weight for the Wedding & Vacation)

53008560046

I’ve lost a little weight since Disneyland in May 2014 already, but I don’t know how much, I just know my pants are less snug…

Just warning you, this post gets a little personal and isn’t really directly about Disney , it just relates to Disney because it’s something I am doing BECAUSE I am going on a Disney Vacation, which I think is good for this website because I have read a lot in forums about people trying to lose weight for a Disney Vacation. So, it fits here, right? Right… Also it’s embarrassing, buy only for me, so don’t worry.

Ok, I am jumping on the bridal bandwagon of trying to lose weight for the wedding. I am actually, for the first time in my life, fairly content with my size (even though I was the same size in high school and was miserable about it), but I’m not as happy as I could be, and, most importantly, I am not fit. A few weeks ago, I ran full speed to my friend’s house, who lives about 2 blocks away, and I was so out of breath, it probably took me a good 15 minutes to recover, and let’s not even talk about how sore my legs were from it the next day. I am 26 years old and I want my body to reflect the youthfulness that I feel, as well as maintain that youthfulness for years to come, so the goal in the coming months is to try and get myself feeling strong, energetic, and the happiest I can be in my own skin.

So, here’s the deal – the plan is to keep track of my progress on this website as a small blurb at the end of my Wedding Planning Blogs, but this is the only post that will be fully dedicated to it. I know not everyone is interested in my weight loss journey, but for those who are inspired, want to do it with me, or want to do it in the future (especially if they come by this because they are planning for their own Disney Fairy Tale Wedding), then it is here as a guide for you to pull from.

Here is where I currently stand right now – I am 5’2″ tall (or short, I should say) and weigh 126.5lbs. My pants size is usually 8, dress size 4 or 6, and shirt size usually a Small or XS (something medium depending on the brands, too). Obviously I am pear shaped, so most of my weight loss will come from that lower part. Waist – 26.5″/Gut- 30″/Hips- 40″. If I lose weight, I doubt the gut or waist will change much – MAYBE an inch each, but I am really hoping to get that hip size down. (The good thing is I have very little fat on the areas where my wedding dress fits tight, so I wont need it altered if I lose any weight, plus it’s super tight on those areas anyway, like a corset!)

wpid-20141111_121036-1.jpg

Just snapped this photo solely for this post. Ignore the fuzzy socks!

Now that I have revealed anything that one might consider embarrassing, let me tell you how I am going to take care of that. My eating habits are pretty healthy as it is – I eat a plant-based diet, so no change there, but I do need to cut out a couple things. I have dieted in the past and it has never worked for me because in my normal non-dieting day to day life, I never get cravings, but when I diet, I want to eat soooo much. When I eat what I want instead of dieting, I find that my body stays thinner than when I binge from depriving myself. I am only changing some eating habits so that I don’t affect myself in any negative way. So here are my new eating rules:

  • Cook with less fat (this means using less Earth Balance Margarine for me, I use so much of it!)
  • No eating/snacking after 7pm
  • Keep less snacks (chips) stocked in the house
  • Incorporating more filling veggies in meals (for example – add in a lot of broccoli to smaller portion of pasta with a garlic sauce instead of just doing lots of pasta with marinara!)

The exercise portion of this is where the real progress should come from (hopefully!):

  • Josh and I have started working out for 30 min a day no matter what we decide to fill that time with. We thought of doing it competitively, like whoever gets more “workout points” gets to have an extra $50 spending money in Disney, but we decided not to do that.
  • I am also working out separately from him trying something new often. Today I am going to try a Zumba video game we have. Next week or next month I may try and pull some stuff from the P90X workout DVDs I have.
  • Taking Flip for more/longer walks (this is good for her, too!)

The goal: I would like to get into the 110-115lb range and/or drop at least 1 pants size, aka get that hip measurement down!

So far, this is the starting point, so I will give an update on my progress and if I need to change anything in my next post! Let me know in the comments below if you are joining me on my journey!
